The paint your own pottery business in Ireland is at a very early stage in its growth compared to the UK and US Markets. While the traditional potters have been supplying craft shops and tourist outlets for decades, the general public seldom get the chance to use a potter’s wheel or paint their own pottery.
Recognising a need in the Irish market, Artworks Cafe was established in 2006 to offer expert instruction to individuals and groups who enjoy making or painting their own pottery. Since we opened, a number of similar organisations have followed our lead around the country.
Despite the less than ideal economic climate, our experience tells us there is still plenty of scope for Craft business opportunities for existing businesses or budding entrepreneurs.
Training Seminar
Artworks Cafe is offering a 2 day business seminar to guide interested people through all the aspects of running their own pottery business. The seminar is aimed at anyone who is interested in starting their own business or people who may already be involved in the craft market as a mobile or home operator. It also may suit play centres or crèche providers looking to expand their services
Over the 2 days, we will lay out the facts and figures which will equip you with the knowledge to make the right decision on your options in the pottery market. Bridget Moncrieff who started the business and her team will give you the benefit of their experience as a market leader over the last 5 years.
The programme is run over two full days and will explore all core elements necessary for setting up a pottery business including technical, financial, marketing and product range and pricing.
A core element of the seminar will be on product mix and pricing. The course will also equip you with some basic hands-on ceramic workshop techniques which you can teach your customers.
The course will take place in our studio in Portmarnock where you can see first- hand how to use the equipment and materials. Participants will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to maximize their prospects of business success in the new and emerging paint your own pottery (PYOP) business in Ireland.
The course costs €250 per person (including all materials used and lunch on both days).
